Help needed...I'm taking a break from reading all these 100 scholarship applications to do some of my own thinking/ questioning for a minute...
For any of you who have ever been on a "diet" (I don't like the word because it has "die" in it, lol)...
It's very easy to stick with just your basic food plan for the day when you're at work, or running of to work,
or commuting to/from work...but what happens to you when you get home? Do you crash? Do you work out? Are you too tired to do anything? For those who have been on a diet, how do you keep yourself from "snacking" or "nibbling" or "sneaking" little food stuff here and there when the structured part of your day is done?
I know- a simple "I just don't do it." but for those who have REALLY tried to diet, who know that they have a weight problem, and KNOW that there's an addiction to food somewhere in there.... how do you do it? Just add more stuff into your schedule to the point of exhaustion? Put your food under lock and key? Go to bed so you just pass out and not think about it? Any tidbits of advice can help.... my problem doesn't lie during the day- it lies at home from 5:00pm-9pm.
Help! :-)
Ok, I'm going to try this again:
ReplyDeleteSnacking itself is not an issue - I eat about every two hours, all day every day. It keeps your metabolism up. The trick there is sticking to healthy options: almonds, cottage cheese, fresh fruit (ideally ones lower in sugar like bananas) and veggies with hummus. Things also high in protein (like cottage cheese) are good because they fill you up.
The trick that I use at home ... Allie won't like this ... but I just don't buy that stuff. No chips, no cookies. I keep dark chocolate around for a small sweet thing, and I am often known to dip it in a jar of natural peanut butter. I find that I will stand in front of the cupboard and not want anything, and I realize that I'm not hungry, I just want a cookie. So I grumble, because there are no cookies, and I go back to the couch.
With time you realize that you start to lose your taste for the sweeter things. For example, I don't like milk chocolate too much anymore, and I don't really like cake either. Frosting, in particular, gets really gross after about 3 bites.
